While I agree with much of what you have said, I would also point out that it's a long way from Obama to Trump, and electing the first Black person to the Presidency is definitely a highlight. As a way to understanding how a person goes from being a "Hope" to being a "disappointment" I would suggest you read: A Promised Land by Barack Obama and Locked in the Cabinet by Robert Reich.
